If you’re still relatively new to offroading, it’s likely that you’ve got some preconceived notions about what you should be doing. If you ever seen extreme videos online that make you want to take some risks or massive challenges, it’s important to note that the off road community comes with a series of guidelines to keep things safe and legal while you are on any trail. Here are some of the top things you need to know so you don’t look like a poser.

Worry About Base Components First

Make sure that you have the appropriate tools to take on the terrain before you worry about accessories. Auxiliary LED lighting is a great option if you’re going to try some trails at night but it’s usually best to manage the fundamentals first. A proper suspension system, traction aids and armor can be a far better accessory to upgrade first so you can offroad safely.

Change Tire Pressure

Many beginner off-road or simply drive their vehicle into the trail system and then don’t make the appropriate adjustments. Running a different tire pressure can give you the traction the need for off-road and a more comfortable ride. Most off-road driving is usually done with a lower tire pressure than you would use for the highway. Keep an electric pump in your vehicle so that you can deflate and inflate your tires as required.

Bring The Tools You Need

If something goes wrong, have the tools on hand to stay self-contained. Packing along an air compressor, jack, extra gasoline, spare fluids, recovery straps, a winch and other equipment will make sure that you can be ready if something goes wrong. People in the local community may get tired if they have to constantly bail you out.

Know The Area:

The idea of escaping off-road can be tempting but making sure that you know the area you’re in and how to navigate is important. Bring along a topographical map so that you know the local landmarks and make sure that you’re not trespassing so you can have a successful adventure.

Keep these top ideas in mind so you don’t end up in a dangerous situation.
